The right eye makeup for your eye color!

Everyone always has the question…What color eye shadow should I be wearing? Well here is a little cheat sheet so you can give those eyes all the attention! Read on to get tips about choosing the right shade for you and check out the celebrities with your eye color who follow these rules as well!

(Click on image for larger view)

If you have Blue eyes, your best bet for color will be neutrals, browns and golds. These are going to enhance and brighten the blue color. I also recommend brown or brown/black eyeliner as well since pure black can sometimes look too harsh against blue eyes.

For Green eyes, opt for purple and pinks… they will bring out a blue/green in green eyes and mesmerize anyone looking into them! Also purple, aqua and black eyeliners will intensify the look. Green eyes are also best to handle an intense smoky eye since they are dark enough to not look harsh against darker colored shadows but light enough to give a dark smokey eye some brightness. So start playing around with different colors to personalize your own smokey eye!

If you have Hazel eyes consider yourself a one size fits all! Most colors are going to mesh well with your greenish brown and golden eyes.  I would stick with smokey plums and gold to really brighten them up but have fun and play around with different colors to see what meshes best with your skintone.  If you opt for blue shadows, keep them in the navy blue range instead of baby/pastel blues.

For Brown eyes, blue eyeshadows are going to be best.  You can range the color of blue from navy to royal just keep it contained on the eye for enhancement, don’t smother the entire lid from eyelashes to eyebrows with dramatic blue eyeshadow otherwise someone may send you back to the 70’s. Keep it simple; even a liquid blue eyeliner worn solo on the eyes will give it enough pop. Brown eyes are already intense so all you need is a little pick me up to brighten them!

Enjoy!

Get this hot 4th of July look with these fabulous beauty products!

Happy 4th of July weekend everyone! I have searched and searched and found the perfect look for the 4th of July. My vision is reflected through Christina’s fabulous look below. Make sure to rock that red lipstick for the fourth along with some royal blue nails to show your patriotism!

(click on image for larger picture)

Start with a nice foundation, I like Trish McEvoy’s even skin foundation for these hot weekends, it is lightweight and easy to reapply, but please don’t forget that SPF underneath! Keep skin protected with Laura Mercier SPF 45 for the face. Its not oily and absorbs right into the skin.  Follow with a nice concealer set like Bobbi Brown’s which actually comes with a seperate powder to put on top of the concealer to keep it from creasing in the hot weather.

Now for the eyes… start by using a nice eye base like NARS eyebase to keep the shadows from moving and setting into the lines. Use a light shimmer powder for the lids, corner of the eyes, and underneath the eyebrow followed with a darker contrasting shadow like a grey or black to put ONLY in the crease and outer corner of the eye. Remember, we are doing a bold lip so if you do decide to use black as your contrasting shadow keep the application very light to give it just a little depth and always keep the lid very light. My favorite set for this look is the CHANEL Les 4 Ombres in Smoky Eye.  It has your light shimmer shadow along with different darker contrasting shadows to play around with.

After the shadow use a black, water-resistant gel liner, my favorite is Bobbi Brown gel liner in Black Ink. Keep the line very thin on the inner portion of the lash line then allow it to build to a thicker line as it approaches the outside corner of the lashline, feel free to extend the line a little past your lashline for more of a cat-eye look as well (just make sure you don’t extend the line too far and it naturally slopes upward to form a SUBTLE ”wing” look). Leave the lower lashline bare to keep the eye simple. Follow with some natural looking false eyelashes like Laura Mercier full lashes, or if you want it to be a little more subtle, she also sells lashes for the outside corner of the eye. Before adding the lashes curl your natural lashes so they flow with the false ones. Also, after application of the lashes use one coat of black mascara to blend natural lashes into the false lashes… again only one coat… and keep most of the mascara on the natural lashes, never use the mascara on the very ends of the false lashes, they will clump!

Finally use NARS Angelika blush and Guerlain Terracotta bronzing powder for the cheeks. Remember, bronzer goes below the cheekbones, on the temples, tip of chin, and down the nose. Don’t use a lot of blush for this look, only enough to give you that pinky glow right on the cheekbones and apples of cheeks. Finish with the red lips! Use a blue/red based lipstick like Chanel Excessive or MAC Red lipstick. Use a red lip liner that matches your lipstick to keep it from bleeding. Finally use a bright royal blue nail poish to finish your look! My favorite is Essie Aruba Blue nail polish. Have a great holiday and with this look fireworks aren’t the only thing people will be looking at! Enjoy!

The best look and beauty-must-haves for a day in the sun!

Just because you are spending a day on the beach or by the pool is no excuse not to look fabulous! I’m not talking about going out in the sand with a full on smokey eye and fancy hairstyle, but celebs like Sofia Vergara prove that there are fast and convenient ways to add to your already beautiful beachy look and here they are! These products are must haves for your beach bag!

First things first…. always wear a sunscreen! Nothing is worse than burnt, red skin that will lead to pre-mature aging! Use Skinceuticals Sheer Physical Defense SPF 50 for the face. It is so light that it will not clog pores or get greasy, they just came out with a tinted version as well so you can get coverage as well as protect! They also make a great sunscreen for the body.  If you want a little bronze glow grab some Tan Towels for instant color before hitting the beach.  Next…. we are going to assume your hair is going to get a little crazy so instead of fighting it grab Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray… it will add and maintain that wavy, piecy, hair style you get from the salt water and sea breeze without it getting frizzy. Now as far as the face is concerned we only want to bring and wear minimal makeup. My must-haves include a waterproof mascara and eyeliner. My favorites are Chanel Stylo waterproof eyeliner (comes in all different shades) and Laura Mercier Waterproof mascara. Please don’t go crazy with the eyeliner.. remember.. its all about the natural look! Pop a little in the corner on the top of the lid and apply to the water-line… this is all you need! Next you need a good bronzer like Victoria’s Secret bronzer or NARS bronzer. Apply under cheekbones, on temples, forehead, and down the middle of the nose. Always pop on a bright-colored lip gloss like NARS Wonder lip gloss or Shiseido Luminizing lip gloss in Maraschino! I haven’t forgot about our nails and toenails either.. always have them done in the summer!! I love Essie’s e-nuf is e-nuf or Deborah Lippman’s It’s Raining Men colors…they are a great contrast next to the sand! Finally keep a fresh scent by using Bobbi Brown’s Beach perfume. It is a perfect compliment to your look and captures the smell of summer in a bottle! After all of this add your favorite accessories…a beach hat, sunglasses, or hoop earrings! You will for sure be the hottest thing next to the sun!!! Enjoy!

Get your perfect summer lip color for your skin tone!

Summer is almost here and you know with that new tan we can pull-off different shades that looked too harsh in the winter. Here is a little guide as to what color you shoud be wearing for your skin tone that compliments you most! Read more below and find which of these celebrity lips fit you best!

For fair skin tones like Kate Bosworth, Amanda Seyfried, and Reese Witherspoon, usually classic cherry reds, rasberry or pale/pastel pinks, and nudes look best.  The lip color should have a blue undertone to it.  Usually these skin tones dont tan very well, or if you do tan it still has a pinkish undertone so for the summer definitely opt for this type of color! Stay away from orangy coral tones for this will turn very bright and look overpowering on your skin. Try Guerlain Rouge Lipstick in Rouge Sensuel!

For medium skin tones like olive or golden, opt for a coral based color, or fire engine red. These skin tones tan very well and stay dark throughout the summer. Choose orange/golden based colors which will enhance your beautiful skin tone and brighten your entire face bringing a fresh glow to your skin. Mimic stars like Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, and Jessica Alba. Try Yves Saint laurent Lipstick in Coral Sun and for that extra pop use NARS Wonder Lip gloss over it or by itself!

For darker skin tones go for brighter pinks with more of a purple undertone like fuchsia’s and bright berries. This will add a kick of color to your beautiful skin and give you that extra glow for the summertime. Follow tips from stars like Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, and Sanaa Lathan. Try MAC Orchid lip stick!

Correct way to shape those eyebrows!

Everyone does it…overpluck, underpluck, super-rounded arch, no arch, shorten it, or even keep it too long! You know what I am talking about…eyebrows! These are the simplest things but an unfitting-shaped eyebrow on the face can not only draw the wrong kind of attention, but completely throw off the other beautiful features on your face! How many times do you see a beautiful/handsome woman or man that has the perfect face shape, lips, nose, eyes but then….. bam! Those eyebrows just throw everything off!! This is a little guide to getting the best shaped eyebrows and some tips for filling them in if you need a little help!

Follow the three line rule seen here with Angelina Jolie. From the corner of your nostrel (right corner for right eye and left corner for left eye), draw an imaginary line straight up, then one diagonal that crosses just on the far side of your iris while looking straight, then one diagonal from the outside corner of the eye. These should be your three points of reference. The line straight up is where the eyebrows should begin, the second point is where the peak should be, and the third point is where the eyebrow should end. Also, please don’t mess with the thickness of the brow! Only pluck underneath the peak and the ending portion of the brow. Never pluck underneath between point 1 and 2 unless you need a more of a gradual slope towards the peak, or you have an extreme overgrowth of hair that needs to be dealt with. This will keep your natural thickness of the brow and keep you from looking like you have strings for brows. When plucking underneath points 1 and 2 make sure it is a straight line towards the peak, not an arched line otherwise you will lose the peak.  Also for filling in, if you need more thickness concentrate first on the areas between points 2 and 3, this can be done with a pencil or powder, never fill in between points 1 and 2 unless you have extremely thin brows and in that case, use only a powder because a pencil will make it look too harsh. With the powder use a very thin, fairly stiff, angled brush. You can also accentuate the peak but not too much, only where it will look natural.  If using a brow pencil find one that has a brush at the then that you can blend the color into your brow for more of a natural finish. Use a color that will match your brow color, if you try to match it to your hair it will most like be too dark or too light and look fake.  An exception to this rule is if you have very blonde hair and dark brows, for this, find a neutral blonde color, this will allow you to fill in the brows without darkening them even more, and, since your brows are already dark, it will look even and natural. Laura Mercier makes a great brow powder and brow brush, also T L’Clerc makes great pencils with eyebrow brushes at the end of them!
